Katherine Streight

Music in the Schools

As a child Katherine studied piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music;  played flute and bass clarinet in the high school concert band and vibraphone in the jazz band and took part in band exchange programs, workshops and summer competitions at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.

After high school Katherine completed a two-year music program in voice at Vanier College CEGEP in St. Laurent, Quebec traveling with the school choir to Wales  to compete in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod festival.  She continued to study voice privately for a number of years.

Katherine received a Bachelor of Education from McGill University and enjoyed a 32-year career as an elementary school teacher in Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick. She often taught music and directed school choirs.

Katherine continues to share her love of music by singing in both church and community choirs. She was a  member of the Shiretown Singers from 2003-2019; participated in the Voices of the Bay mass choir and performed in Early Music community choirs under the direction of Dr. Matthew Leese.
