PAST PROGRAMS

THE NEW BRUNSWICK EARLY MUSIC FESTIVAL

This month long Festival, once held in June offered a unique musical experience focusing on combining college-level academic classes for credit through Millikin University (Decatur, IL) and non-credit workshops and courses through the St. Andrews Arts Council with pre-professional performing opportunities and significant community involvement with some of the best early music teachers and performers from Canada, the US and New Zealand.

INTERNATIONAL PIANO ACADEMY AND FESTIVAL

The St. Andrews International Academy and Festival was devoted to creating an exciting musical environment by bringing in world-class musicians to perform and share their expertise. It offered in-depth and personalized musical experiences and educational opportunities for aspiring young artists as well as general music lovers. The Young Artist Program was selective, and open to conservatory-level pianists. Young Artist Program participants were eligible for the St. Andrews International Piano Concerto Competition. Participants had the opportunity to be instructed by faculty members and to attend all master classes, recitals, and special arts workshops.

INTERNATIONAL GLOBAL STUDIES PROGRAM (IGS)

The International Global Studies Program (IGS) established in 2006 in collaboration with Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois, offered for-college-credit immersion courses in the arts, sciences and education through University residencies in St. Andrews. The St. Andrews Arts Council worked with each institutional partner to facilitate and coordinate program support services, facilities, adjunct professors, performance venues, accommodations and recreational activities. Students were able to audit courses through the St. Andrews Arts Council or enroll for college credit through participating Universities.

BETWEEN THE TIDES EXPERIMENT

The SAAC/Ministers Island partnership was called the Between the Tides Experiment in view of the rather unique situation offered by the island including its tidal access, array of historic buildings, and the potential for both traditional and non-traditional performance spaces throughout 500 acres. The Island was used to program experimental and avant-garde performing arts programming including collaborations by IGS program university participants and involved cross-discipline projects with students and faculty focusing on cutting edge performance art and education.
